I am chewing on a green Skittle right now. The best flavor. Now an orange one. It tries, but it is still one of the lesser citrus flavors. Ew purple. You don't belong here. Red. The color of communism.
Is China still communist? I know that I tend to make fun of mainlanders because of that, but I don't even know for sure. It's technically the People's Republic of China. But a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Or sour in this case.
Or is it? What makes one system so much better than the other? People die for both democracy and communism. I find this hard to wrap my mind around. Religion I can kind of understand. But a political system? I'm not trying to belittle their deaths or anything, but its hard to consider dying for a different kind of government a worthy cause. I admit, I don't know much about people's situations under oppressive governments, but I think death in a political war is so pointless. Dying may have supported freedom for future generations, but living would be so much more fulfilling to the ones you love, and those that love you. We don't need freedom. We need each other.
Backing away from controversial stuff for a second. I really want to drive home our inborn need for other people. As a teenager myself, I know how appealing independence is. I want to be self reliant. Then I will be strong. Respected. People who ask for help for everything are annoying. Weak.
The problem with being a lone wolf, is just that. Loneliness. You reinforce the image of yourself as having everything under control, and when you realize it isn't, you can't confide in others without ruining the image you tried so hard to keep. We can't handle all our problems by ourselves. You can lie to everyone else, but you'll just end up digging yourself in a deeper hole.
Please note that I am not referring to anyone when I use "you". That's just how I write.
One hour and many Skittles later. I am now eating apples slices. Admittedly not a good choice to follow the Skittles with. But that's kind of like what happened in this post. I went from Skittles to something entirely Skittles-unrelated. I think that's what everyone who reads this should take from this post. Skittles stimulate your brain.
i really love the way you write.
ReplyDeleteand yes you do tend to make fun of mainlanders for that:)
